Long House or Large House...

We arrived and after shopping, some of us took a nap, some f took a walk, some did laundry and most of us showered in the shore provided facilities.

Yesterday Ed, and Jim went to Bella Bella for some additional shopping and as both Stever and I were feeling under the weather, we stayed on the boat with Lynne. By dinner time Stever and I were famished so we joined the crowd for dinner at the restaruant.

This morning, Ed shared some pictures of the LARGE house at Bella Bella. he had asked an elder if he could see the inside and both Jim and Ed were welcomed. Local lore was shared and they learned that both a Long House and Large House serve the same purpose but the Long house has 2 fire places in it and the large house has but one.

Today was also we took all the anchor chain out of the anchor locker to discover that we only had 225 feet of anchor chain but our chain counter is only indicating 10.5 feet of chain deployed. We will have to recalibrate the Chain Counter. The chain was marked for its length and for the calibration distance tomorrow we will calibrate the Chain Counter.

Stever met a young German woman who has ben kayaking from Anacortes Washington to Juneau Alaska, on her own. She was inspired by other women who have made the journey and even bought the kayak she is using from one of them. Stever arranged that she have dinner with some of us boaters, she came to dinner with her host Wayne. Tomorrow she will shove off toward Alaska. We may see her yet again along the way.

Wayne, is a gentleman that lives on this island and has appointed himsel the job of ridding the island of SCOTCH BROOM. An invasive flower imported from Scotland. He has worn many hats including being the fire chief of one of the islands he lived on , long distance kayak camper, Kayak tour leader in own company and tour guide.

Rounding out the dinner to celebrate Maditha's accomplishment, were Elen and Bob who form part of our flotilla but are not competing in the predicted log.

Tonight's sun set was beautiful and occured around 1112 pm.
