Sudden change of plan took us to a floating village. Venice of BC?
Sudden change of plan took us to a floating village. Venice of BC?

We departed this morning from the Lagoon Marina. While the place is in need of TLC which itis getting it is a warm and welcoming location but we had to go, we are moving northward to Alaska so while we would enjoy more free prawns, delectible, tender and moist as they were, Echo Bay beckoned. Leg three of the predicted log competition was to be run the next day.

The Crew is taking the change in tempo in stride.

As we approached Echo Bay, Scott texted us to let us and the flotilla know that Echo Bay had no services to offer, no groceries, no fuel, no water, no electricity. So Echo Bay was a no go and leg three of the competition was on, today.

As we approach the new destination for today we were on heightened alert for the logs, nay trees that were floating near the entrance to Sullivan Bay. We were directed to finger pier two and met by two of the denizens of the floating village. As I had to take the girls to relieve themselves, I asked directions to the walk way to the shore, and was directed to the dog float. "Head to down town, make a right and go past the fuel float you will find the dog float near shore. Please clean up after your dogs." The dog float is just that a float... a floating patch of lawn for the pups to relieve themselves. Both dogs urinated and sniffed around. Dusty was not impressed.

We walked back to the boat past, the store, the laundry/library/bathroom float past the closed restaurant, opens in July, the dock master and a floating home that is for sale.

There are other floating homes in the community, mostly empty until their owners return from warmer climates to enjoy the cooler weather of the Pacific Northwest.

Sullivan Bay

The store carries non-perishables at present, and also liquor. Perishable produces suce as produce, meats, ice cream wont be avialable until there are enough folks in the area to support the store. They normally shut down the power at the end of the day but since there were enough boats in today, they will keep the power on tonight. They may nee to keep the power on for a bit longer.

Our next challenge will be to find a weather window so we can cross Cape Caution. THe weather predictions are for GALE FORCE winds for the next few days. In the meanwhile, we will stay put and keep an eye on Predict Wind App and Government of Canada weather forecast and try to guess when is the best time to make the leap.

Tomorrow we will have the PEEL OFF and learn how we did. We hope to be the most improved crew!
