We've been in Shearwater enoying meeting other boaters and travelers. Some are going north to places we have been to and to places I hope to visit some day. Some are going south to their home ports or into the waters of the Puget Sound. Most if not all of us are waiting for a weather window to make the dash across Cape Caution.
So many different stories and so many different walks of life, all with one thing in common, the love boating and travel.
One couple we met has been coming to waters of Canada for diving and fishing for the past 20 years the last few in a powerboat. Their multibreed dog played fetch wtih our dogs in the lawn at the head of the marina.
Another couple we met regaled us with their story of crossing Cape Caution in large seas and surfing the waves. They spoke of their life in Vancouver and their boating and paddling adventures in Canada and abroad.
We met a young architect who works the hospitality business and is currently working a the local fisherman's lodge with her husband. Another young woman who is a social worker sent by the provicial government to provide mental health care for the local population. She shared a story of working with women of the local clan as they harvested cedar bark. She discussed the reverance for the land and the thanks to the tree for shareing itself with the clan. The bark is striped from the tree and the inner bark is used for a variety of things such as fiver for weaving products for the homes, clothing and hat. I like that she is working with the clan, establishing relations and trust, rather than just sitting in an office waiting for life to happen.
Yesterday and today, we parsed the information available on Prredictwind to determine the best date and time to head south to visit Pruth Bay and it's sand on the pacific ocean. The plan is to depart from Shearwater earlly tomorrow and visit Pruth Bay before heading to Dawson Landing. We hope the weather holds or improves for our crossing the next day.
So with the fuel and water tanks full, we will cast off tomorrow for a three hour tour to Pruth.
I'll catchup with you tomorrow. In the meanwhile, enjoy the sunset and the weather vane.
