Good evening. Hope you have had a wonderful day. Ours was a day of first experiences. We departed from Queen City Yacht Club this morning for Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The calculated distance is 80 miles. At 10 miles per hour, that is a long day on the boat. The pups are going to be desparate to get to shore.
As we departed from Eagle Harbor, we noted a low hanging marine layers. As we neadred the south end of Whidbey Island, the low marine layer became a fog that we had to navigatge. I was hoping to see some Orca but that was not to be. But we did see some wild life.
We ran our first predicted log competition. Ed submitted his predictions yesterday and today we sent the actuals. We don't expect any award, perhaps an also ran mention. I will let you know in a couple of days.
After completion our Saratoga Leg of the predicted log, We made our way to Deception Pass. Deception Pass is located at the north end of Whidbey Island. There is a tall elegent bridge that spans the gap between Whidbey and Anacortes. There can be a powerful current running through the Pass and there are at times large whirpools. We made it throught unscathed. It was a great expereince. The whirl pools, the rugged treed terrain, the bridge soaring above the pass. It was quiet a beautiful passaged.
We arrived at the Friday Harbor early in the evening. Got the boat moored with less drama than the first time we moored here in April when the current and the wind were both strong and adverse to our attempt to moor. As the final electrical connections were made, Lynne and I took the pups for a walk on the small patches of lawn at at the road sides. As we rdeturned with the dogs, we learned that there is an unofficial off leash area located at an abondend quarry.
Dinner this evening was Rice with Pulled Pork, Green salad and Potato Salad with brownies for desert. White wine, Cognac, for drink and sea stories.
